Brand Building Blocks - Identity Marketing

Brand Building Blocks

When building your brand, there are key blocks to make sure your business doesn’t fall like a Jenga tower in the wind.

When building a business, there’s key pieces you need to encapsulate to really convey the idea of who or what your brand is. We’re not just talking about your logo, Instagram page, or ‘cool’ t-shirt you make your staff wear. We’re talking about integral pieces that inform who your brand is and what it stands for.

These pieces need to sit together making one cohesive brand identity. Elements like your fonts, colours, and messaging need to work like lego bricks. All perfectly connecting together to form one finished product. To make sure the foundation of your brand is set up well from the beginning, here are four pieces to consider:

Brand Positioning

The purpose of your business is the single most important aspect of your brand – and simply saying ‘money’ isn’t going to cut it. Understanding the mission and vision behind your brand will give you the framework to understand the why. Why does this brand exist? Why does it matter? Why would people be upset if it closed down tomorrow? Once you answer this, you can understand how best to connect your brand to your target audience. You can figure out what your brand stands for and what sets you apart from the rest.

Brand Name

A brand name can be tricky, we know. People expect it to be the perfect distillation of everything aspect of your business. Every element perfectly boiled down into one or two words. If you want to do it right, it’s going to take some time. But if you’re going to do it (and let’s face it, if you’re starting a business you don’t have a choice) you’re going to do it right. A great name will make it easy for people to find you and easy to talk about. So consider what makes your business unique and go from there.Messaging
Knowing your brand’s messaging from the start can make sure you’re taking the opportunity to communicate who you are directly to the customer. Keep it short and sweet but purposeful. It’s important to get your verbal identity right as your brand is more than just your visuals. It helps set you apart from your customers. Creating a piece of messaging that’s simple ultimately has more longevity than trying to overcomplicate things.

Visual Identity

Your visual identity represents your business in multiple deliverables. It’s the visual assets that assist your business in standing out and grabbing customer attention. This is the foundation of your brand, from your logo to your marketing materials. They all represent your business and should build brand recognition with consumers.
